Polk Woman Charged With Practicing Medicine Without License

WINTER HAVEN, FL — An employee of a Winter Haven weight loss clinic has been charged with six counts of practicing medicine without a license.

On Tuesday, June 12, Polk County Sheriff’s Office undercover detectives arrested 39-year-old Jesusadelaida “Jesse” Lopez of Winter Haven at her workplace at the “Drop It Like It’s Hot” weight loss clinic on Cypress Gardens Boulevard in Winter Haven.

Dr. S. Kamal Ashraf, M.D., who works at the clinic, was also arrested on a felony charge of knowingly employing an unlicensed person in the practice of nursing.

According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, Lopez portrayed herself as a registered nurse and performed medical procedures even though she does not hold any medical degrees. Judd said the only license Lopez has in Florida is a pharmacy technician license that expired in 2014.

Among the procedures she reportedly performed were vampire face lifts in which blood is drawn from the arm, plasma is separated from the blood and then the plasma is injected into the face. Judd said she also used laser and ultrasonic body-shaping machines on clients.

Judd said his office launched an investigation earlier this year after being tipped off by the Florida Department of Health and the DEA, which became involved because Lopez was reportedly transporting controlled substances from the clinic to her home and advertising the use of medical marijuana at the clinic without the Department of Health’s approval.

Judd pointed to Facebook posts and videos in which Lopez claims to be the owner of both Dr. Drop It Like It’s Hot weight-loss clinic and Dr. Compassionate 420 medical marijuana consultation business. He said investigators also found framed certificates claiming Lopez was a registered nursed.
