DUBOIS — Dr. P. Joseph Valigorsky II has been named as a member of the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine.
The State Board of Medicine regulates the practice of medicine through the licensure, registration and certification of members of the medical profession in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
The board regulates medical doctors, physician assistants, radiology technicians, respiratory therapists, nurse-midwives, acupuncturists, practitioners of oriental medicine, perfusionists, behavioral specialists and athletic trainers. The board also has authority take disciplinary or corrective action against individuals it regulates.
Beyond the individual oversight, the board periodically reviews the character of the instruction and the facilities possessed by each of the medical colleges and other medical training facilities offering or desiring to offer medical training in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth. The board also reviews the facilities and qualifications of medical colleges and other medical facilities outside the Commonwealth whose trainees or graduates desire to obtain licensure, certification or graduate medical training in the Commonwealth.
Valigorsky was nominated to serve by state Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati, and unanimously elected to the board by the Pennsylvania Senate.

“It is a great honor to help regulate the welfare and health of the citizens of the Valigorsky is the Medical Director of the Anesthesiology Department and Pain Management Clinic at Penn Highlands DuBois. He has been an anesthesiologist at PH DuBois since 1994.
He has served as Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia, Chairman of the Department of Surgery, Chairman of the OR Governance Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Surgery, all at PH DuBois. He has been a member of the By Laws Committee, Board Quality Committee, Medical Executive Committee, Medical Staff Quality Committee, Surgical Quality Team and Quality Management Team, all at PH DuBois, and the Clearfield County Medical Society.
Valigorsky is a board certified – diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, and he is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiology. He received his medical degree from American University of the Caribbean.
A native of Weedville, Dr. Valigorsky lives in DuBois with his wife, Toni Cherry. They have two children, Lee Grace and Tripp.
